Sometimes... life happens

People, sometimes, unknowingly, unwittingly put themselves in a contretemps.

Bloggers are usually wary of such traps but a few, occasionally, securing themselves in the darkness of night, forget that they have a glass house.

Then, day breaks...

Trucks

Definitely sends the message across!

Truck drivers, in any country, have a reputation that they carry everywhere- which might entice confidence or trigger some phobias depending on the geographical region you are in.

Indian truck drivers are known to be killers on the road. They are also considered very moralistic and helpful, esp. the Punjabi ones. (Coming from Delhi- that's what I know) They are the ones who will go through a lot of trouble to help someone and be protective of women on the road.

On the other hand, their American counterparts are the safest drivers on the road. They will never go above 55mph, drive in the slowest lane, follow all the traffic rules but they will also go for all the porn that is out there- just try searching for "truckers' wives" on google. (I did that search while trying to hire some truckers' wives for some unconventional marketing)

There are some new laws being considered wherein the manufacturer of the truck will cap the speed of the truck to be 65mph by activating engine speed limiters.

VB

Never wanted anyone
Never required anyone
Until I met you.

Never wanted marriage
Never required a relation
Until I got you.

Never wanted support
Never required comfort
Until you held me.

Never wanted love
Until I found you.

Bad telemarketing

In India, I am used to getting calls where people call and hang up. But here? With all the laws enabling me to sue the caller for thousands of dollars?

Apparantly, a lot of people are having the same issue. The following numbers have called my cell multiple times in the past few days:
1) 727-450-0346
2) 888-669-8868
3) Another one that I lost.

If I call them back, either they don't ring or no one picks up.

Now, I am not the one who goes around giving her cell to random online websites. So, the question is, how on earth did they get my number?

(I am not on the do-not-call list. But as is clear form the above link, that doesn't help.)

My guess is that this is a telemarketing company selling various services like credit cards, free vacations etc.

By experience, I am sure that they will stop if I don't respond. I will probably be added to non-responding numbers within a week or so. ( hopefully :-) )
-----------

The worst telemarketers are cops asking for charity. Vinit and Piet, couldn't say no to the scary sounding seargant from the local police station who needed to speak with someone NOW. We 'donated' a few hundred bucks till I stepped in and started taking the calls.

My brilliant idea?

Simple- " We just recently donated to another local police station. I would like to give money for your kids/farewell/firetruck/golf outing but our budget is already extended. How about you call me in 6 months? "

I get a call twice a year now. happy me.

Yes- I am just a greedy capitalist.

( I do donate, btw and a lot; just not to golf outings of the new mafia)

Bodyboarding: The basics

Requirements: a board, flippers (optional) and you :-)

Directions : Swim out into the sea where the waves are breaking and wait around for a high wave. As soon as you see one, push forward and start swimming. The wave will catch you and do all the work.

Suggestions: Make sure your board is tipped forward. If your weight is towards the back, then you will lose the wave.

(These instructions are for simple body boarding where the wave catches you and takes you forward. More will come as and when I learn tricks)

X-to-be

As most of you know, I am engaged to be married to my 5.5 year love, Vinit. As we already work together, hang out together and live close by to each other, we know each other pretty well. We also know each other's families. This last part creates a quandary for our close relatives and esp the kids. Nieces and nephes, just learning the first few words can not be taught to call us didi/bhaiya and then later change to mamisa,bhabhi/mosaji,jijaji.

The solution or the informal correction that comes into play is the '-to-be' suffix. So, I am bhabhi-to-be, mamisa-to-be, bahu-to-be. It's fun.

I wonder if I will have the same trouble letting go of this nomenclature as I am having with BF. BF sounds so muc better than fiance. 'husband': I am not sure of.

These are the musing of a girl- so you men shud kepe your witty comments to yourself.

India Blocks Blogs

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I have a theory- Someone gave vsnl a list to block but they didn't know how to so they went ahead and blocked the entire URL of blogspot.

Oh well, I am sure they will fix it in a couple of days.

Hell has broken out!!!

Vs.

It has been extremely HOT this weekend and it is goign to continue to be like this for another week. We went jet-skiing and stayed in doors the rest of the time and were, thus saved from any temperature related maladies. What was disappointing was that after having endure such horrible climate, www.weather.com says that the temperatures are only running in the high 30s (high 90s for you non-metric people)!

I am from Delhi and 40c-45c is considered high there; Allahabad, once, even went up to 48c.

oh well, it was hot and I had fun Jet-skiing. :-)

Dakshina Kannada Police

This police office has to be applauded for its pioneering use of blogs to create a more public face. They have been blogging about their activities including people caught and stolen items returned for more than a year now!

Dayananda B is the brains or atleast the writer behind this idea which I hope will spread like fire among other police stations. I am sure the media will be able to utilize the additional transparency provided although other than young people and savvy middle aged people, Indians in general will not have much use of Dayananda's initiative for a few years.

I am amazed and very proud of the Indian Police for the level of transparency being provided.

America- The land of....

Free T-Shirts!!

The most popular personal marketing technique used by american companies is handing out T-shirts with their name printed on it. If you land in this country and are cash strapped, simply go to a few free conventions, grab a dozen or so T-shirts and you are done!

While you are at it, get a few baseball caps, balls, pens, pencils, candy and stationary.

Starting point?

So much to say, so much to document; tough to give the acclaimed first entry to one simple moment.

My smart idea of the day: give 1 liner for each day and continue later in detail! (maybe not that smart, oh well)

Day 1: SF to LA: THE most beautiful drive I have ever seen.
Day 2: LA: Fun city, beautiful houses and salsa dancing on the streets!
Day 3: Azusa, LA: Hiking and Bungee *@#** jumping!! Much scarier and fun than expected
Day 4: LA to SF, SF: The most stinky road trip (Rt. 5) and lots of cute guys for Rima!
Day 5: SF: Tons of fun in 50% less gravity.(Edit: I'm being sarcastic abt the gravity- it was fun though)
Day 6: SF: The gravity must be way low here! (Muir woods and old faithful geyser)

---
Day 7: Tired and sleepy- I am very glad I own my own company.

:-)
