Six Flags looks to sell 6 of its 30 parks...

This is the worst day of my life. :-( (ok fine not the 'worst' day but sad nonetheless)

Six Flags hasn't turned a profit since 1998 even though has tons of thrilling rides. The reason, of course, is that once past the age of 19, people become 'phatoos'. Whether they blame their kids or their heart, they only want to go on rides that are fit for toddlers. The outcome is a chain of theme parks aimed mainly towards teenagers.
I wish they keep making such cool rides but I am sure they won't after their CEO has decided to turn the park around and make it more family oriented. :-( ( Read - fit for phatoos)

UMPC!!

Our latest addition in the office. :-) The UMPC is a better version of a laptop for mobile people. It has a touch screen like a handheld but the power of a laptop. As you can see above, the keyboard is on the screen itself and split in two- letting you use your thumbs to type! It is incredible ingenuity!!

Ipaq vs. UMPC vs. Laptop

That's my old Ipaq phone which is a little bit bigger than most HP Ipaqs and Vinit's IBM laptop which is a LOT smaller than any other laptop.

The Samsung UMPC (which we got for $1050 when it is supposed to be 500-600 in a few months) , has the following configuraiton which is almost close to my laptop's configuration although it is not an IBM:

  • 512 mb RAM
  • 40 gb harddrive
  • 900 mhz
  • 7" WVGA TFT LCD
  • Wireless Lan (I dont know which one its probably a 'b')
  • Bluetooth
  • 2 USB
  • 1 external ODD power port
  • CF Card Slot
  • Monitor port (important :-) )
  • No cd/dvd
  • No IR
  • A lever which can make it stand at 20 or 80 degrees
Vinit's observation- It looks a lot like a PSP. Either Samsung stole the PSP main engineer or they spent a lot of time playing games!

Apparantly the next version will have a 3g phone built in. If they do, I am dumping my laptop and getting this. No need of carrying a bag around- it fits in my purse!!!

Stupid little things

For the past few days, I have been in a very excited mood whenever I use my laptop.
Reason?
I changed the settings for my extended monitor so now, I have to move my mouse DOWN through my 1st screen to go to my 2nd one. And, both are placed side- by -side rather than up/down!

It is actually quite fun in a stupid childish way.

The best part is when someone else uses the computer and are completely lost between the two screens!! (fine I am sadistic)

Outsource or not?

We are expanding pretty fast and I am faced with a tough decision- should we outsource our sales or not? Having inside-sp is good and usually makes sense. But, lately I have realised that we are not very good salespeople managers. It is a full time job just keep their spirits up and drive them forward.

Outsource
  1. Faster expansion
  2. Better management (I am not a salesperson)
  3. Better results?
  4. Less stress inhouse
Not
  1. Might be more expensive
  2. Hidden Costs?
  3. Less control over the process

At this moment, thus, I am very inclined to outsource our sales. Let's see.
